2009 WALK WITH A FRIEND RAISES OVER $40,000
ST. LOUIS, April 25th - The 9th Annual Friends of Kids with Cancer "Walk with a Friend at Sunrise Celebration" welcomed almost 1,000 participants to Maryville Centre, and raised over $40,000!
Thank you to Duke Realty, First Watch, Bender Inc and all the volunteers that turned out to make this event a major success. Juice, fruit and parfaits from First Watch were served up by the hundreds as almost 1,000 people turned out for the event to support kids battling cancer.
Family teams were the talk of the Walk again, with teams like Lauren's F.A.R.T. Team (Friends and Relatives Together), Connor's Team and Nick's Army out in full force. A first time team made a huge impression in 2009, with C.J.'s Journey bringing almost 100 family members and friends out to celebrate the Walk, his life and his 19th birthday. A special thanks to his family and everyone who came out to support him, including Teresa Woodard of Fox 2 News for covering the event and C.J.'s story (click here to view the news coverage).
"This event has become an important way for families to show their support for kids with cancer," said Judy Ciapciak, Executive Director of Friends. "Banners, signs, t-shirts and lots of family and friends honor kids in treatment and remember those we have lost."
This is the second straight year that it has made over $40,000 for the organization's programs. Thank you to all the sponsors, walkers, runners and Angel Walkers for contributing to a wonderful cause in the name of these courageous kids.
