Blue skies, breezy weather and Friends old and new came together to raise $125,600 for Friends of Kids with Cancer. Supporters of this dedicated organization stood together in defiance of the economy to make sure that kids with cancer all over St. Louis have something to smile about. And judging from the great day out at Whitmoor Country Club, those smiles must be contagious!
Despite filling up on an amazing spread from Russo's Catering, North Star treats, snacks and drinks, many participants still found a way to play a great round of golf. The overall Champion from the North Course at Whitmoor brought the best score to the clubhouse, shooting an astounding 56! The foursome of Joe Belew, Bill Houck, Cindy Maritz and Ed Mayuga were followed closely by the winning foursome on the South Course. Rick Goe, Dave Gresham, Wayne Schroder and Brian Glenn shot a round of 57.
The true star of the day never set foot on the greens, but he spoke passionately about Friends of Kids with Cancer. Brooke Nicholson was our featured speaker of the evening, and his speech was accompanied by some very kind words from his mother. We would like to thank him and his family for coming and sharing with us. A former star speaker, Luke Weaver, took the day off from speaking but went to work on the course, coming back to the Tournament this year to play. Taylor Rozier, another patient in treatment, lent her time as a volunteer with her mother, as she cheered on her dad who played in the Tournament.
It was a wonderful day that raised money, awareness and the spirits of everyone involved. Thank you to everyone who supported this event in so many different ways, especially our Title Sponsor Waste Management, this would not have been possible without you. Can't wait to see everyone out for more of the same next year!
